Reset your routine after the holidays

The Christmas and school holidays are a wonderful time to relax and celebrate, but they can also bring their own kind of stress with extra social commitments, travel, and busier schedules. Returning to daily routines after the break can feel tricky, and if your usual healthy habits slipped over the holidays, now is the perfect moment to gently reset and restore balance.

Reconnect with your daily rhythm

Begin by reviewing your routines and habits that support your wellbeing. Did you skip your morning walk, meditation, or healthy meals? Identify the small habits that make the biggest difference and start by reintroducing one.

Avoid trying to overhaul everything at once. Focus on one or two key habits. For example, if morning movement energises you, commit to just a few minutes a day. Once it becomes natural, you can gradually increase if that suits your routine and body.

Identify the changes that have the biggest impact

Look for high-impact changes that create the most positive effect on your day. This could be drinking a glass of lemon water first thing, preparing a nourishing, high-protein breakfast, or setting aside 15 minutes to unwind before bed. Pick one meaningful change that feels doable and start there.

Introducing new habits

When forming new habits, start small. Make it so easy that it’s hard to skip. For instance, if you want to start journaling, begin with just one sentence a day or perhaps one paragraph a week. Consistency matters more than quantity.

This is reflected by the 1% change model, which shows that small, gradual improvements compound over time. That single sentence may feel minor now, but over weeks it builds a lasting habit and can spark other positive changes. Once one habit is established, layer in another. Over time, these small changes create a ripple effect for your overall wellbeing.

Be gentle with yourself

Restoring balance is a process, not a race. Celebrate small wins and be kind if you slip. Each day is a chance to reconnect with your rhythm and make choices that boost energy, focus, and joy.
